Poor Financial Decisions Racing Team
Welcome Poor Financial Decisions Racing Team, where we like to lead the pack in spending dumb amounts of money to capture every drop of that sweet, sweet serotonin.
At the tail end of 2019 PC Era (Pre-COVID) I was gearing up to jump headfirst into the world of freelance photography, mainly motorsports, as my primary source of income and employment. This included working on funding for another digital camera body and the necessary lenses that I would need to cover the events I was going to attend. Now for the most part I would consider myself to lean towards being “risk adverse” which usually hinders me from making major leaps of faith. Now I knew I had the skills but I lacked the foundation of working leads and getting my name in front of those who would employ for photo work.
I’m always conflicted when I think of what could have been and where I may have been in life had I followed my dreams. The conflict comes from knowing that the decisions I’ve made in life have led to where I am now, both mentally, emotionally, and physically. With my re-energized passion for photography, bought on with my deep dive into film being my main medium, I figured why not work my favorite subject matter into my new film workflow.
And thus Poor Financial Decisions Racing Team, has been truly born.
Imagine if you will the image above, but on film. Yes, I had originally edited it to have a film-like look but without the feel that you get from it being actually shot on 35mm film. Recently I had a Pentax K1000 restored to factory like new conditions to be my primary 35mm film camera. So here is where the poor financial decisions come into focus (hehehe photography joke). One night while I just happened to be browsing a used photo equipment website and I stumbled across a variety of inexpensive prime lenses for my Pentax K1000, and idea passed along my prefrontal cortex to primarily shoot film for 2025.
The crux of this idea is my senior year marketing project, the creation of a YouTube channel. Awhile back I had created a channel but could never nail down the niche for the project, but that has all changed. Now the real question is will I actually follow through with this? I will say that at the present moment I am in a better mental space from a creativity perspective, so the likelihood of this launching and getting off the ground has a higher probability of seeing the light of day.
Stay tuned for more updates of me and my journey of making poor financial decisions and the benefits that they bring.
